Modern Calligraphy Workshop for Beginners

Sat., November 19, 2022 @ 10:30-12:00pm

Modern Calligraphy Workshop for Beginners

Beginner class - No skills or artistic ability required

Learn the basic strokes of modern calligraphy to create the alphabet, words, and even your own name. With practice you’ll be able to create sentences too.

How is modern calligraphy different from traditional calligraphy? Traditional calligraphy has structured, individual strokes with precise measurements for angles and stroke heights, whereas modern calligraphy includes loops and swooshes, giving the artist full creative freedom within the art form.

Instructor Beth Gully is a graphic designer and creates ambigrams using unique letter shapes and images. Her appreciation for lettering styles has spanned her 40 year career with many logos incorporating her personal font. Logos utilizing Beth’s hand lettering include the ‘Voice of America’ Center, Four Paws Animal Hospital, ML Cook Library, and ‘A Step a Thread' logo for the Hallmark movie filmed in Lebanon.

Cost $36

Workshop includes tracing paper, a brush pen, and a guide booklet.

RSVP using link below. Class size: 10 participants.

WHAT EVENT PLANNERS ARE SAYING:

"In light of the Christmas Service, I wanted to express our gratitude to you for sharing your presentation of the Other Side of Christmas with us. The unique presentation that you offered enriched the service and I believe was very special for the families."

- Jessica Cinefro, Chaplain Resident, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital

"We enjoyed your presentations so much and I think you made quite an impression on the students.  Your connection to both sides of Christmas has been a real positive for them. Have a wonderful Christmas Season."
- Jean Listerman, Librarian, St Joseph School in Cold Springs KY.

“If you are looking for a great Christmas book with the WOW feature on every page, this is the book.  With each Christmas tradition shown, the reader flips the book over, and as the kids ‘ooh’ and ‘ahh’ the reader continues with the story of the birth of Jesus.  A must for your shelf, this book will become a Christmas Tradition, read every year.”
- KaSandra Feldmann, Library/Media Specialist

"It was such a delight to have you with us on Sunday. Thank you for taking the time to come, and for such an inspiring and faith-filled presentation. So many people have made a point to tell me how much they enjoyed it and were inspired by your faith and journey. Thank you again!"
Pastor Michelle TerryBethlehem Lutheran Church, Middletown, OH

"Thank you so so much for investing in our kiddos. It was extra special to have you here and it's been so fun to hear the kids in response. This was truly a blessing :) "
Lauren Ellis, Boys and Girls Club of West Chester/Liberty

OTHER TESTIMONIALS:

"These books are such an original concept. What I respect, perhaps most, is the way Beth uses her talent and ingenuity to share her faith with children."
Loren Long - New York Times Best Selling Author/Illustrator. Including 'Otis the Tractor' books and his acclaimed illustrations in the revised classic, 'The Little Engine That Could'. www.lorenlong.com

“(This) new book by local author Beth Gully brings the Easter story alive for children in a delightful and faith-filled new way.”
Eileen Connelly, OSU Staff writer for The Catholic Telegraph

“What an innovative and creative concept, combining both the religious and secular celebrations of Christmas. This is a book you'll flip over -- literally.”
Dave Richardson - '451 Books', Owner. Contributor for Highlights Magazine and Workshops

“Thank you for the great (book signing/reading) event today. My kids were inspired.  They were working on pictures and stories all night.”

- Liza  (mom)

“Beth, You are such an impressionist of God’s love.”
- Kim Lykins

"A special and imaginative book that shared the meaning of Christmas. Visually stunning, it captures the attention of readers of all ages and makes a wonderful Christmas gift. Truly, the imaginative illustrations are mind-blowing."
- Melanie Friedersdorf

Amazing book! Fun to read. Amazing illustrations! I've read this book over and over with my child and she loves it!
- Kelly Fliegel

"This is the most unique book I’ve ever seen and read. The concept of presenting two sides of Christmas with the upside-down artwork is amazing. I’ve seen children‘s faces when they see how the book works and they love it, and they get it. Well done."
- Margret Courtney

“I absolutely love this book!  I bought it last year and read it to my two little grand girls. Their look of wonder was priceless. I can’t wait til I can read it to them again this year as they will be 5 and 3 years old and will have a better understanding of the concept. Beth Gully has really brought the spirit of Christmas together in a meaningful way. I plan to buy more of these books this year to give to family and friends. I’m going to make sure this becomes our new Christmas tradition.”
- Bev

"Just want you to know how much we are enjoying the book you gave us.  We took it to preschool today because they were asked to bring a Jesus book. Their friends and teacher loved it.  Their teacher is borrowing it another day to read it to the 3 year old class.  That is a gem of a book!  Thanks so much!  Merry Christmas!"
- Anonymous, Wyoming

"Your books were a BIG hit this Christmas for so many, including my family and the children in my Sunday Parish Religious School preschool class.  Thank you so much!!"
Julie L. Mitchell

"I discovered your book through my mother's reading the article in the Lebanon paper. We both bought one. It was such a hit at Christmas that I wanted to share through a testimonial: This Christmas, my four-year-old granddaughter was very confused and had many questions about Santa and Jesus. Did Jesus get presents from Santa? Was Jesus Santa's baby? If it's Jesus's birthday, why do we get presents? and many more. The Other Side of Christmas really helped her see differences in secular Christmas and religious Christmas. Thank you so much helping!"

- Ann Jordan, Cincinnati

"I got the book at Mims off main and was so excited that you signed it and it had a bookmark to boot! I plan to read it to the kids and then present it to the teacher so she may use it for years to come. Thank you so much. I pray for your book to make it into millions of homes and transform lives for the Kingdom of God. What a precious gift He had given you. Merry Christmas."
Sheri Stacey
